Art Basel 2025

BASEL

Returning for its 55th edition, Art Basel 2025 reaffirms its status as one of the world’s leading art fairs, with a bold and expanded program set to unfold from June 19 to 22, following VIP preview days on June 17 and 18. Held at Messe Basel, the fair gathers 291 galleries from 42 countries, offering a global platform for modern and contemporary art across all media.

This year’s fair reflects both tradition and innovation, featuring established blue-chip galleries alongside a new generation of voices.

A New Chapter: “Premiere” Sector Debuts

For the first time, Art Basel introduces the Premiere sector, a new platform spotlighting works created within the last five years. Each participating gallery showcases up to three artists, placing recent and experimental practices center stage. Among the 10 inaugural exhibitors are Broadway (New York), Silverlens (Manila/New York), Kosaku Kanechika (Tokyo) and Edel Assanti (London)—bringing fresh narratives and diverse geographies to Basel.

Public Art & Curated Experiences

This year’s public art program expands into the city itself. Under the curatorship of Stefanie Hessler (Director of Swiss Institute, New York), the Parcours section traverses Basel’s Clarastrasse all the way to the Rhine, integrating site-specific works into urban life. On Messeplatz, Katharina Grosse transforms the plaza with an immersive spray-paint installation curated by Natalia Grabowska (Serpentine, London), merging color and architecture in a monumental gesture.

Sector Highlights

  • Galleries: The fair’s core section returns with 239 international exhibitors showcasing museum-quality paintings, sculpture, photography, and installations.

  • Feature and Statements: Solo and thematic presentations, with Statements continuing to support emerging voices.

  • Unlimited: Monumental works and installations that defy the traditional art fair booth format.

  • KabinettEdition, and Conversations: A blend of curated displays, limited editions, and a live program engaging with critical discourse in art and society.

A Global Vision

While Basel remains the fair’s flagship, Art Basel’s global reach is expanding. The Hong Kong edition in March 2025 drew significant attention, and in February 2026, Art Basel will debut a new fair in Doha, Qatar, marking its entry into the Middle East. These expansions highlight the fair’s commitment to fostering dialogue across continents and cultures.

Art Basel 2025 not only celebrates five decades of excellence but also looks forward with renewed curiosity and experimentation. With new sectors, bold installations, and a truly international outlook, this year’s edition positions itself at the dynamic edge of the global art scene.
